monuments
Humayun’s Tomb: This red sandstone structure located near East Nizammuddin is the first perfect example of Mughal architecture in India.

Old Fort or Purana Quila: This fort is supposed to be built by the Pandavas and served as their administrative capital. Pottery and vessels dating back to 1000 B.C. The entire palace complex was called Indraprastha.

Red Fort or Lal Quila: The fort was a part of the Shahjahanabad city, constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1639 A.D. It is built completely of red sandstone and bit of marble in the interiors.

Qutub Minar: This is the highest stone tower in India with a height of about 72.5 meters. The foundation was laid in 1199 AD and the present complex is the sweat of two kings and a Britisher.

Safdurjung Tomb: This tomb was built by Shujauddaula, son of Safdurjung alias Mirza Mudim Abdul Mansur Khan, in 1754. It is one the last examples of the Mughal style architecture, a fine specimen from a decaying empire.

Jantar Mantar: It is an astrological observatory made by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in 1724. Modeled on the 14th century Ulugh Baigh of Samarqand, it is located in the heart of shopping hub Connaught Place.

Rashtrapati Bhawan: Originally conceived by Sir Edward Lutyens as a fitting 330 acre residence to the Viceroy of India during British reign, it is now the home of the President of India.

India Gate: It is a war memorial to all those unsung soldiers who die in wars to serve the country. The magnificent lawns also serve as a picnic spot on pleasant days and gentle nights.
